Mercedes-Benz Actros Euro V vs Euro VI DEF Dosing: Hilite, Cummins EcoFit and UL2

Separate supplier heritage, catalogue families and installed references before selecting an Actros DEF pump or doser.

For the Mercedes references examined here, the aftermarket catalogue distinguishes Hilite EcoFit under Euro V from EcoFit UL2 under Euro VI, including one- and two-connector supply units. Bosch separately confirms Cummins Hilite systems in the Actros. These findings support reference-led identification; they do not establish one pump for every Actros of either emission stage. Bosch supplier-system announcement · rema.germany catalogue, p.2

This guide separates supplier history, dosing-platform names and vehicle application evidence. Its purpose is to improve a parts enquiry, not to provide a universal Actros conversion table or repair specification.

1. Who supplied the system, and why do the names differ?

Cummins' original acquisition announcement states that it completed the acquisition of Hilite's emission-control assets in Marktheidenfeld on 18 July 2012, bringing them into Cummins Emission Solutions. This explains the historical Hilite and later Cummins association. It was an asset/business transaction, not evidence that the entire Hilite company was acquired. Cummins acquisition announcement, 18 July 2012

The names should still be recorded at the right level. Hilite identifies the technology's supplier heritage; Cummins identifies the acquiring emission-solutions business; EcoFit and UL2 appear in the product-family terminology being investigated. Corporate continuity does not make different pumps or dosers interchangeable.

Supplier heritage, catalogue family and vehicle application are separate evidence layers.

A Bosch service filter does not make the platform Denoxtronic

Bosch explicitly describes replacement AdBlue filters for Cummins Hilite systems used in the Mercedes-Benz Actros. Its announcement calls these systems third-party applications. A Bosch-branded service filter is therefore not proof that the complete dosing platform was designed by Bosch. Bosch announcement, introduction and portfolio-extension section

Preserve the installed assembly's identification. A replacement filter, aftermarket box or workshop's preferred brand can describe a service product rather than the original system supplier.

2. Euro V and Euro VI: what the reference table actually supports

rema.germany classification Catalogue item Selected Mercedes OE references Identification boundary
EcoFit / Hilite / Euro 5 848040 A0001400078; A0001400178 Earlier catalogue family; not named UL1 in this source
EcoFit UL2 / Hilite / Euro 6 / one connector 848041 A0001405578; A0001407678 Confirm full reference and installed version
EcoFit UL2 / Hilite / Euro 6 / two connectors 848043 A0001403378; A0001405778 Connector count is one clue, not an interchange rule
EcoFit UL2 / Hilite / Euro 6 / two connectors 848044 A0001402378 Separate catalogue entry; do not merge from appearance alone

Source: rema.germany supply-unit catalogue, p.2. The catalogue retains “Hilite” in its manufacturer column. Its Mercedes entries are aftermarket comparison references, not Mercedes-Benz VIN-specific replacement approvals or proof that every listed number applies to every Actros.

Figure 2. BG comparison of the cited catalogue entries. No production-year boundary, pin assignment or component interchangeability is implied.

The useful working answer is thus earlier EcoFit/Hilite versus later UL2 catalogue families, followed by exact reference checking. Do not turn this into “all Euro V Actros use this pump” or “all Euro VI Actros use that pump.” The sources reviewed here do not establish such coverage.

3. What Cummins' UL2 description explains

Cummins describes UL2 as a liquid-only urea dosing system. Its product description identifies a chassis-mounted supply module heated by engine coolant and an injector cooled by urea recirculation and heated electrically. These are supplier platform characteristics, not a particular Actros' hose-routing diagram or diagnostic limits. Cummins UL2 brochure, pp.2-3

Separate UL2 DEF dosing, supply-module heating and injector cooling functions.
Figure 3. BG functional reading guide based on Cummins' UL2 description. It separates thermal functions; it does not show physical ports, a complete circuit or a vehicle-specific test procedure.

Liquid-only dosing should not be described as compressed-air-assisted atomization. Likewise, a coolant-heated supply module and a urea-cooled injector do not perform the same thermal task. Identify which component and fluid a complaint concerns before selecting a test or ordering a replacement.

Do not copy a general UL2 brochure's flow capacity, pressure or shutdown statements into a workshop acceptance limit for an unidentified Actros. The installed reference and the applicable vehicle service information must govern that decision. This article does not assign the earlier EcoFit hardware the same UL2 architecture without supporting version-specific documents.

4. Model, market and emission-stage boundaries

Record the VIN, engine identity, market, production information and full installed component number. A vehicle's Actros badge, a seller's “MP” label, or its nominal Euro stage is not enough to confirm an assembly. This article supplies no guessed MP2/MP3/MP4 changeover chart, engine-wide pump assignment or universal model-year cutoff.

Market context matters. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil's 7 November 2022 announcement discusses its 2023 BlueTec 6 range, including Actros, in the context of Brazil's Proconve P8 transition. That is an original vehicle-manufacturer source, but it is not a European Actros pump-supplier list. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, Euro 6 transition announcement

Treat “BlueTec” as vehicle aftertreatment terminology. It does not supply the missing component reference or prove that a particular pump is Bosch, Hilite or one specific UL2 variant.

5. A concrete BG reference, with its limits

BG lists 203011 / OE A0001407678 as a urea pump assembly with Actros/Arocs application wording. Independently, A0001407678 appears in the rema.germany one-connector Euro 6 UL2 entry above. This is a useful catalogue cross-check; it is not a VIN-level approval, proof of every listed supersession, or evidence that the BG assembly was manufactured by Cummins. BG 203011 product page

Figure 4. Actual BG catalogue photograph from the linked 203011 product page. An independent aftermarket product example, not an original Hilite/Cummins identification plate or universal Euro VI Actros replacement.

Use the BG DEF pump catalogue, complete part-number directory, or BG Contact to investigate the old-part number. Send the label and connector photographs with the application details. Share the VIN privately through the enquiry channel, not in public comments.

6. What to request before diagnosing or ordering

Evidence to retain What it resolves
Complete label, suffix and any documented supersession Which exact reference is being investigated
All connectors, pin arrangement and fluid connections Hardware differences that a front photograph can hide
VIN, engine, market and emission configuration The particular installation, not a broad vehicle family
Requested component: supply unit or exhaust doser Whether the proposed replacement matches the complaint
Fault code, test routine, conditions and measured result The difference between an observed fault and a repair hypothesis

For a pressure complaint, keep the actual pressure result separate from any dosing-quantity result. A leak report should identify the fluid and the connection. An electrical complaint should name the circuit identified by the vehicle diagnostic information. These are enquiry disciplines, not remote proof that a pump has failed.

Quick answers

Is an Actros AdBlue pump necessarily Bosch Denoxtronic? No. Bosch's own announcement confirms Cummins Hilite applications in the Actros while supplying filters for them.

Can one- and two-connector UL2 units be substituted? Connector count alone cannot justify substitution. Use the complete original reference and vehicle-specific approval; the catalogue separates these entries.

Is the Euro V EcoFit family called UL1? The cited catalogue does not use that designation. Do not introduce it as a verified series name here.

Does a UL2 platform reference prove every Actros Euro VI application? No. Platform documentation and an aftermarket reference table do not replace a VIN-specific parts check.
